“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him.”
At the ripe old age of six, our precious Cadence is getting up there in years, and so the time-honored process of exchanging her baby choppers for a flashy new set of grown-up teeth is officially underway. On Cole’s birthday, we took them out for Pizza, and while chomping down on a hot cheesy slice Cadence’s very loose front tooth fell out. When she discovered it had left her she dove to the floor to retrieve it amidst a cacophony of hysterical laughter and exuberant squeals.
The tooth has been threatening to fall out for some time, and cashing in on a tooth fairy visit has been at the forefront of her mind and the favored topic of discussion. Once the tooth in question was gathered up and properly secured in a pocket, exhaustion immediately set in, and Cadence insisted we take her home to bed.
I’m proud to report that we didn’t fall for it and uneventfully enjoyed the balance of Cole’s birthday celebrations. She was able to somehow remain awake for the festivities, and some hours later, while they all slept, the tooth fairy did pay a visit. Cady awoke the following day a couple of bucks ahead and the wealthiest person she had ever known.
These are magical years when everything is new and fantastic, and we cherish every moment we get to spend with them. It’s not just the silliness and so much cute it’s impossible to stand; it’s the purest and most brazen form of honesty that touches your heart and brings a smile to your face.
Children. They are a miracle.
